Pink Wedding Dress Quilt for Michelle

Michelle's wedding dress was made by her mother.  It was off-white silk brocade, lined in pink, which gave the gown a warm tint. I designed her quilt with a square center, and two borders.  The lace edging from her dress went around the center motif, and in the inner border.  Then I machine quilted a pretty feather design. Her wedding invitation was made into a label on the back of the quilt.

Michelle donated the leftover fabric to be used to make Angel Gowns for the NICU Helping Hands. I am a volunteer seamstress for this organization, that provides support and gowns to families with babies that don't make it home from the hospital.

I'm really pleased with the results!

Silver Satin Wedding Dress Quilt for Mary

Mary's quilt was a beautiful embroidered silver satin ball gown.  She didn't want a traditional quilt, but more of a modern design, and wanted a larger size.  I combined the panels of the gown with some additional dark silver satin for the borders.

This was a great example of the challenge of using a wedding dress, the panels weren't the same size, and were wider at the bottom than the top.  Lots of measuring and marking, before the final cutting!

I quilted swirls around the embroidery, and the darker satin was quilted in a leaf design rather than my usual feathers. There was a 4" border around the entire skirt of the wedding dress, that made a beautiful wide binding for the quilt.

Due to the size of the quilt, it was hard to photograph, the picture of the quilt on a bed shows the design better.
